A Romantic Weekend in Duluth, MN - Oct. 19-21, 2007

Russ decided to reward me for all my hard work with school and we took a short trip up to Duluth over MEA weekend.  We both used it as an excuse to just get away for a few days and not think about anything else that was going on in our lives.

We arrived at our hotel and I was so happy.  We had decided to splurge a little and got one of the suites at this wonderful little hidden gem.  The room had a traditional woodsy feel, but was luxurious at the same time.  The room had a fireplace and a whirlpool in it and was the perfect place for us to relax for the weekend.

One of my main requirements of going to Duluth was to make sure we had at least one meal at Grandma's Saloon and Grill.  I had been to Duluth many times when I was a teenager and this was my favorite place to eat.  So we headed there for dinner our first night in Duluth.  We had such a wonderful dinner and it was so wonderful to be someplace different.

After dinner we headed back to our room to relax.  I promptly placed myself in front of the fireplace because this is what I had been looking forward to the most.  So, I sat myself down in a chair in front of the fireplace and grabbed a big  comfy blanket.  Russ told me he wanted to rub my feet and help me relax.  He then told me I should close my eyes first.  I did so and when he told me to open my eyes I was just expecting to see him there holding my slippers!  Boy, was I wrong!

I opened my eyes and there he was on one knee in front of the fireplace holding the ring.  The first thing out of my mouth was, "Oh Honey!"  He then asked the four words I'd been longing to hear, "Will you marry me?"  I said, "Of Course!" and he placed the ring on my finger.  There was lots of hugs and kisses at this point and the rest of the weekend was so amazing because I was now spending it with my fiance.  We spent the rest of the weekend doing amazing things, we took a guided tour cruise through the harbor of Duluth, a tour of a the historic Fitger's Brewery, a carriage ride through downtown Duluth the evening before we left and we spent lots of time just enjoying each other's company.  We also made sure to enjoy the beautiful sunrises over Lake Superior.
